Pronombres Reflexivos - (Reflexive Pronouns)

Continuando con el correcto empleo de los pronombres dentro del idioma inglés explicaremos el uso de los Pronombres Reflexivos, que son aquellos que indican que la acción expresada por el verbo recae sobre el mismo sujeto que la realiza y no sobre otras personas u objetos. En otras palabras, el sujeto y el objeto de la oración recaen sobre la misma persona, por ejemplo:

Mike shaved himself yesterday.
Mike se afeitó (a sí mismo) ayer.

Susan sees herself on the mirror.
Susan se ve (a sí misma) en el espejo.

Los Pronombres Reflexivos son los siguientes:

se / él mismo

se / ella misma
ITSELF
se / a sí mismo
OURSELVES
nos / nosotros mismos
YOURSELVES

se / ellos mismos

También los Pronombres Reflexivos se utilizan para dar énfasis. En este caso, usualmente se colocan posterior al sujeto o al final de la oración a continuación de la palabra que enfatiza, por ejemplo:

The boss himself sent the letters.
El jefe mismo envió las cartas.
(Quiere decir que él mismo, en persona, lo hizo)

I didn't take the car to the garage. I repaired it myself.
Yo no llevé el coche al taller. Lo reparé yo mismo.
(Significa que lo hice personalmente)

Cabe remarcar que para expresar que la acción se realizó "solo" o "sin ayuda de nadie" deben colocarse estos pronombres precedidos por la preposición BY, por ejemplo:

Carl doesn't study in a group, he studies by himself.
Carl no estudia en grupo, él estudia por sí mismo.
(Lo hace solo, por su cuenta)

The computer works by itself.
La computadora trabaja por sí misma.
(Sin ayuda de nadie)
